Privacy Policy

Last updated August 2026

This policy explains what Civically Engaged collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers our mobile app and this website.

What we collect

  • Account details — your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and mailing address.
  • Identity verification — images of a government ID and a selfie, captured live in the app and processed by our identity verification provider.
  • Background screening — with your written consent, information from a consumer reporting agency used to decide whether you can work on the platform.
  • Work records — the jobs you claim, the tasks you complete, notes you record, and photos you submit as proof of work.
  • Location — while you have a task open, so we can show your route and confirm that work happened where it was assigned. We do not track your location when you are not working a task.
  • Payment details — bank or payout information, collected and stored by our payments provider. We never see or store full account numbers.
  • Device and usage data — app version, device type, crash logs, and basic usage events.

Why we collect it

To decide who can join the platform, to match people with work near them, to prove to a campaign that work was done, to pay you, to prevent fraud and abuse, to meet legal and tax obligations, and to fix problems in the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

  • Campaigns you work for see your first name, your rating, and the work you complete for them. They do not see your ID documents, background report, date of birth, or payment details.
  • Service providers that run identity verification, background screening, payments, hosting, and error monitoring, each limited to what their service requires.
  • Authorities when the law requires it, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm.

Background checks

Background screening runs only after you give written consent, and is performed by a consumer reporting agency. If a report leads us to deny your application, we tell you, send you a copy of the report and a summary of your rights, and give you time to dispute inaccuracies with that agency before the decision becomes final.

How long we keep it

Identity documents are deleted once verification is complete. Screening reports, work records, and payment records are kept for as long as we are required to keep them for legal, tax, and dispute purposes, and then deleted or irreversibly anonymized.

Your choices

  • Access, correct, or download the personal data we hold about you.
  • Delete your account in the app, from Profile → Privacy and location → Delete account (on a campaign account, Settings → Delete account), or by emailing us. We remove your data except what we are legally required to retain.
  • Turn off location permission at any time in your device settings. Tasks that require location proof will not be available while it is off.
  • Turn off push notifications in your device settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your data. Email us and we will honor them.

Children

Civically Engaged is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we delete it if we learn we have.

Changes and contact

If we make a material change to this policy we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Questions or requests: privacy@civicallyengaged-ce.com.
